Roky Erickson, mad dreaming poet, singer, electric jug player, Evil One, legendary Texas psych rocker, left this mortal plane on May 31, 2019. Our drummer Bryan had just begun to get into his music -- the 13th Floor Elevators' 1960s catalog, the inspired Aliens albums recorded a decade later, classics like "The Wind and More", "Two-Headed Dog", "Cold Night for Alligators", and the greatest vampire song every written, "Night of the Vampire".

Roky was one of the holy ones, a true madman spawned out of lines written by the American Beats, awash in the psychedelia of his times; and, as Bryan was discovering, a truly great songwriter whose music outlived hippie culture, everything the Texas authorities threw at him and even the "eccentric" label critics attached to him.

We decided our first cover had to be a Roky song. We chose "Vampire" because it's emotionally free -- a leap over the walls of the asylum institutions all around us -- and stark-raving fun to play. Please enjoy our tribute to Roky Erickson! We hope you like it as much as we love to play it!
